According to Daily Post reports, Senate President Godswill Akpabio today announced the names of eight lawmakers as majority and minority leaders for the 10th Senate.
While the minority leaders come from various opposition groups, the majority leaders are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is now in power.
Concerns that there might be a conflict of interest between parliamentarians who are close to the Presidency and those who are running independently have been allayed by the announcement of the major officials.
The list of the 10th Senate’s top officials is as follows:
Majorities in command
1. Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central).
2. Dave Umahi, Deputy Majority Leader for the APC in Ebonyi South.
3. Ali Ndume, Chief Whip for the APC in Borno South.
4. Lola Ashiru, Deputy Whip for the APC in Kwara South.
Leaders of minorities
1. Senate Minority Leader (Plateau North, PDP) Mwadkwon Davou.
2. Kamorudeen Olarere, Osun West’s deputy minority leader.
3. Senate Minority Whip, Darlington Nwokeocha (Abia Central, LP).
4. Kano Central, NNPP deputy minority whip Rufai Hanga.
