The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has opened up on why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s portrait was not hung at the Abia State banquet hall. He said that it is not because his administration does not recognize Tinubu as the President of Nigeria.

It should be recalled that recently, a photo had gone viral on social media showing Governor Otti in Abia’s banquet hall, but only Governor Otti’s portrait was seen hanging in the hall without that of President Tinubu. The photo had generated a lot of reactions online, with some people speculating that it was because Governor Otti was not recognizing Tinubu as the President of Nigeria.

While reacting to the speculations, Otti said that they have Tinubu’s portraits in some of their offices but not all of them, and that the same is true for his own portraits.

In the statement he released through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, he said that the reason is because his government is a new one, and that they have ordered for more portraits. He said that it is wrong to say that someone who was duly sworn in as the President of the country is not being recognized.

In the report which was made by Daily Trust on Sunday July 2nd, he said – “We don’t have the Governor’s portraits in most offices because this is a new government. We have placed some pictures and ordered for more. It has nothing to do with politics.

“The day the Governor met with permanent secretaries, we still had the former Governor Ikpeazu’s portrait in the banquet hall. It is criminal to say that the person who was duly sworn in as President will not be recognized. It doesn’t make sense, and we don’t think it is in that direction.”
