The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state has issued a statement urging Senator Teslim Folarin, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election, to retire from active politicking. The PDP asserts that Folarin is no match for Governor Seyi Makinde.
The statement by the Oyo State chapter of the PDP comes in response to Folarin’s claim that he suffered defeat in the state due to the APC’s arrangements with the PDP to win the presidential election. The PDP’s Publicity Secretary in Oyo State, Akeem Olatunji, referred to Folarin as a sore serial loser attempting a political comeback by associating his political misfortune with someone he should consider his political master and the most successful politician in Oyo State’s history.
Olatunji reminded Folarin that he lost his polling booth, ward, and local government by significant margins during the election in which he ran as the gubernatorial candidate. The statement questions who betrayed Folarin in his own constituency. Furthermore, it highlights that Folarin was a relatively unknown figure in Oyo State politics in 2003 and 2007 when he became a Senator opportunistically.
The PDP statement describes Folarin as an ungrateful and undeserving politician who fails to recognize the reality that Seyi Makinde is his political superior and does not belong to the same class or league of politicians. The PDP suggests that Folarin should hold his peace, stop making abstract statements, and consider retiring from politics to focus on his private life. The party argues that Folarin was a failure during his three terms as a Senator, even when he held the influential position of Senate Majority Leader.
According to the PDP, Governor Seyi Makinde has become a successful and respected politician in Oyo State, surpassing Folarin’s political stature. The statement emphasizes that comparing Makinde and Folarin is insulting to the people of Oyo State, as Makinde’s achievements and electoral victories are significant and unparalleled. The PDP firmly rejects Folarin’s attempt to associate his political misfortune with Governor Seyi Makinde.
