In an interview with Arise , Buba Galadima, a spokesperson for the NNPP, made some startling revelations about corruption in Nigeria. Galadima disclosed that a deputy Accountant General of the federation had given his girlfriend a staggering $80 billion, out of which thieves managed to steal $4 million. Shockingly, the security officers entrusted with apprehending the thieves ended up sharing the stolen funds instead of arresting them.

Galadima’s comments were in response to a question about the best way to utilize fuel subsidy savings for the benefit of Nigerians. He emphasized the need for stringent monitoring of government funds to prevent any leakages. Galadima called for the effective collaboration of organizations such as the EFCC, the SSS, and the Police in apprehending and prosecuting corrupt government officials.

Expressing his concern over this issue, Galadima stated, “I strongly believe that all government funds can be closely monitored to prevent diversions. Just recently, there was a media report highlighting how a deputy Accountant General of the federation gave his girlfriend a mind-boggling $80 billion, and unfortunately, thieves colluded with the driver in the house to steal $4 million from that sum. Shockingly, even the security personnel entrusted with arresting the criminals shared the stolen money among themselves. It is disheartening that the government has failed to apprehend those responsible for this theft, allowing them to roam freely. This raises questions about the effectiveness of agencies like the SSS, the EFCC, and the police. The judiciary must also play its part in ensuring justice is served.”
