Segun Sowunmi, a candidate for governor in the PDP’s Ogun State 2023 primary, has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu need to establish a government of national unity, just like his predecessor, General Olusegun Obasanjo. He acknowledged that, although not being in the same political party as the President, he and the President have a Yoruba heritage in common. He noted that Yoruba people have a disproportionate share of the appointments that Tinubu has made so far.

That is why we are advising Tinubu to form a government of national unity, similar to the one we had under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, he said. Because the declared winner of the previous election had well over eight million votes, the second and third places likewise received well over six million. Not even half of the eligible voters are represented by all of these combined. Do you believe the Police and Soldiers will handle the job, or do you think the eight million votes will assist you cover the entire country? To succeed, you must enlist the support of the entire team.
