Why Tinubu’s govt, govs can’t dialogue with bandits – Shehu Sani
A former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has explained why President Bola Tinubu’s government and the governors can not dialogue with bandits in the country.
The Kaduna lawmaker stated this in a statement his verified Twitter handle on Sunday.
According to Sani, bandits are not like Boko Haram and ISWAP that murder people under the guise of religion.
The sociopolitical commentator said bandits are armed movement pursuing religious, ethnic, or political agenda.
Sani said bandits ha be no single leadership but operate in clusters and as criminal gangs.
He said, “Dialogue with bandits will not work because of these three reasons; they are not an armed movement founded for the pursuit of any religious, ethnic or political causes, other than extortion by atrocious blackmail, abductions and cold-blooded murder of innocent citizens.
“Two, they are not united under a single leadership but operate in clusters and criminal gangs; three, their motivation is money; they kill and abduct for money.
“Bandits are unlike Iswap and Boko elements whose acts of abduction, terrorist attacks and slaughter of innocent citizens is done under the guise of religion.
“Dialogue with Bandits is a waste of time. Those governors who tried it later regretted it.”
Insecurity: Anambra to recover illegal firearms
Director of media and publicity of AVG, Nweke Nweke said yesterday that it would first identify legal and illegal possessors of firearms and then recover those held by illegal users.
According to him, the use of pump action guns is prohibited, adding that it is only AVG members and private security guards registered with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, or known to the state government, that are supposed to use them.
Nweke said: “Only the AVG is allowed to bear firearms like pump action in Anambra State. It is a prohibited device, but you can see some unidentifiable individuals and groups using them.
“AVG, with other joint security teams, will embark on mop-up action to identify people or groups using prohibited firearms and recover them from the public. Genuine users will be checkmated.
“It has been discovered that most of these hoodlums who are causing security challenges in the state and all over Nigeria, acquired firearms illegally. “We are calling on the public to assist the security with relevant information. We are also calling on individuals or groups with genuine reasons to possess arms to identify with relevant authorities for better.”
Nweke commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for making the state a haven for both local and foreign investors, liveable and prosperous to all, assuring that the AVG and other security agents would leave no stone unturned by securing the environment as envisaged by the current administration.
Nobody Can Impose Cabinet Members On Me – Oborevwori
Delta state Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has stated that nobody, not even his predecessor, can impose those to be appointed into the state executive council on him.
He was reacting to reports that the Government was under pressure on the choice of cabinet members.
Chief Press Secretary to Governor of the state, Sir Festus Ahon said the Governor is taking his time to pick suitable and competent hands to be cabinet members.
Ahon said: “First, the State House of Assembly was constituted on June 13 and thereafter went on recess for two weeks and only reconvened on Tuesday June 27.
“The Governor will pick credible and capable persons devoid of sentiments that will help him deliver on his M.O.R.E Agenda for Deltans.
“Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa does not interfere with appointments. We should avoid speculations that could heat up the polity” he stated.
He enjoined Deltans to be patient with the state government as it was poised to deliver more for the people.

The senator stated these at the Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium, Nnewi, Anambra State, on Sunday, when he addressed the state vigilante and community security watch operatives from the four quarters of Nnewi, comprising Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim, and Nnewi-Ichi.
He used the avenue to unveil a number of security gadgets and equipment he procured for security operations in the Nnewi constituency and environs while tasking the vigilante operatives to ensure water-tight security for the people.
He said, “The abrogation of the self-inflicted injury called Monday sit-at-home would start from this Monday, July 3. We are going to march on a road show across various markets and roads tomorrow (Monday) to demonstrate to the people that they are safe and should start coming out for business on Mondays.
“The vigilante operatives have been charged to beef up security around all the major markets in Nnewi and ensure that traders and their goods are given adequate protection from the so-called unknown gunmen this Monday and subsequent Mondays to stamp out the cankerworm called sit-at-home.”
