Tribunal admits European Union’s final report faulting Tinubu’s victory, 2023 elections

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Monday admitted to exhibit the final report of the European Union Election Observer Mission, which faulted the conduct and outcome of the 2023 presidential election that produced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and others.

The report tendered by the former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, was admitted as an exhibit notwithstanding vehement objections by President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In its report, the European Union Election Observer Mission claimed that the presidential election did not show credibility, fairness and transparency in the ways and manners in which it was conducted by INEC.

Speaker Abbas disowns aide over over criticisms of Buhari

The Speaker of House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas has emphatically has disowned his media aide, Godfrey Gaiya, over his criticism of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Gaiya had in the interview accused Buhari of failure to fight corruption in his eight years in office, contrary to his promise before his election.

He also accused the former President of deceiving Nigerians to believe that he is righteous, while many became billionaire under his watch with corrupt practices.

Gaiya spoke while responding to questions of what he will tell the former President if he meets him face to face.

“I will bluntly tell him that he failed. I will tell him: ‘Buhari, you have failed.’ He deceived Nigerians into believing that he is all righteous, but behind his so-called righteousness was hellish corruption.

“We have seen and we will still see the number of people that became multi-billionaires under Buhari. If you don’t fight corruption or turn the other side when you see evils, allowing the evils to continue, when you are supposed to be in charge and call them to order, you have failed.

“So, Buhari failed Nigeria in many areas. We are the highest indebted nation in Africa under eight years of Buhari’s administration.”

Witness’s Absence Stalls Opening Of INEC’s Case

The absence of a witness on Monday stalled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from opening its case in the petition filed by the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi and his party.

LP and Obi are challenging the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja had, last week adjourned till Monday for the electoral body, which is the first respondent in the petition to open its defence of the Feb. 25 presidential election, which it conducted.

When the petition was called, lead counsel to the INEC, Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN told the court that, the first defendant has three days to defend the outcome of the Feb. 25 presidential election.

An aide to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during the 2023 general election, Daniel Bwala, has decried the rate of hardship in the country.

Bwala, a former federal lawmaker, lamented the high cost of basic necessities in the country, including food items, transportation, goods and services, medicals and school fees.

In a post his verified Twitter handle on Sunday, Bwala claimed he receives no less than 30 calls from people daily asking for help.

He wrote, “Nigerians are suffering; men, this is too much. High cost of everything; food items, transportation, goods and services, medicals, school fees.

“No day I get less than 30 calls, people are asking for just these simple things to survive in a nation endowed with every riches in natural and human resources. God help us.”
