Tinubu Rejects EU Report, Says Elections Credible

President Bola Tinubu has rejected the report of the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU-EOM), describing it as “a product of a poorly done desk job.”

He said the EU did not provide any substantial evidence ble enough to question the integrity of the 2023 election outcomes.

Presidential spokesperson Dele Alake stated this position in a statement on Sunday.

Nigeria held its general election in February and March. Supplementary elections were also held in April.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, Mr Tinubu defeated 17 other candidates to emerge winner and was inaugurated on 29 May.

His victory is however being challenged in court by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi.

Fire Guts Hotel In Onitsha

Fire has gutted Sopurum Hotel, located in the Nkwelle community, a commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State, burning a substantial part of the structure.

The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained, but it was gathered that the incident started at about 4:30 am on Monday.

FORMER governor of old Oyo State, Dr. Victor Olunloyo, yesterday, described Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State as a man of destiny, who was underrated by political opponents.

Olunloyo said this while receiving the Osun State governor at his residence in Ibadan.

During the visit, Dr. Olunloyo severally exclaimed with a repeated question: “How did you do it? How did you achieve that feat?”

The former governor said: “You are a man the whole world underrated. They were in shock. Only a very few people believed you can pull it off. Tell me the secrets.

“You cleared all the legislative seats, all House of Representatives, all Senate seats and the assembly members. You took the world by surprise. What a wonderful man you are.

“Your performance as a Governor elates me. Osun is a difficult state to govern but you have changed the narrative. You are doing many wonderful things and I can see Osun people are happy with you. Keep it up.”

In his response, Governor Adeleke said he came to pay homage to the elder statesman.

He said: “I came to pay homage to you, our political father and to seek your prayers. I appreciate your kind words about the little we have been able to achieve in Osun. We will not let you down, our father and other admirers far and near.”

Presidential Election Petition: Witness’s Absence Stalls Opening Of INEC’s Case

The absence of a witness on Monday stalled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from opening its case in the petition filed by the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi and his party.

LP and Obi are challenging the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja had, last week adjourned till Monday for the electoral body, which is the first respondent in the petition to open its defence of the Feb. 25 presidential election, which it conducted.

When the petition was called, lead counsel to the INEC, Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN told the court that, the first defendant has three days to defend the outcome of the Feb. 25 presidential election.

He informed the court that the electoral body has three witnesses to present in its case and regretted that the witness slated to give evidence on Monday was not in court and asked for an adjournment until Tuesday for INEC to open its case.
