Sit-at-home: Hoodlums burn police van, shoot sporadically to scare citizens in Ebonyi

Ebonyi communities have continued to boil as hoodlums set ablaze a police van at Ukwagba village and shot sporadically to scare citizens in a bid to enforce the seven- days sit-at-home order declared by a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, led by Simon Ekpa.

It was gathered that the hoodlums who are hellbent on enforcing the sit-at-home in Ebonyi State, allegedly stormed the Ukwagba police checkpoint and told officers to vacate, that they are not looking for them. They, however, set ablaze their police van.

The hoodlums also stormed at Ishieke police checkpoint and shot sporadically, which according to reports, caused police officers in the area to run for their lives.

DAILY POST reports that the hoodlums also stormed at Afiaohu market located along Abakaliki/Enugu Express and allegedly shot into the air to scare people. Business owners in the market were reported to have fled, leaving their wares behind.

Confirming the incident, the chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Prince Odono Okechukwu called on stakeholders of the council to show cooperation to enable him surmount all insecurity in the area.

Ejikeme Result: ASUU, ex-minister, others call for thorough investigation

The National President, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, has called for the composition of a ‘Common Committee’, to resolve the controversy over the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result of Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme.

Osodeke spoke in a telephone interview with the Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, as

the result saga continued to generate reactions across the country.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), had, on Sunday, withdrawn the result of Mmesoma, alleging manipulation of her scores.

Reacting to the issue, the ASUU President said there was a need for the ‘common committee’ to unravel which party was being economical with the truth over the issue.

According to him, there is a need for a proper investigation before running into conclusions in whatever form, by members of the public, in a bid not to malign anyone.

”For me, I don’t see it as right to respond to this whole thing now that it has not clearly been defined. JAMB is claiming its own right and the candidate too is making her own claim.

Also speaking, a one-time Education Minister, Prof. Chinwe Obaji described the development as disturbing, stating that JAMB may be right with its position on the matter, judging from past antecedents.
