Nigeria will face food crisis in next three months – Attahiru

A former Governor of Sokoto State and member of the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, raised concern on Sunday over the banditry in the North-West and North-East, saying it has constituted a serious threat to food security in Nigeria.
According to him, instead of talking about cabinet ministerial appointments, subsidy, and the economy, the government of President Bola Tinubu should consider food security as his priority.
The elder statesman also warned that if stringent measures were not taken to curb insecurity, the North would face severe educational backwardness in the next 50 years.
It was reported that while the announcement by the government of the removal of subsidy on petrol culminated in a hike in the price of food and consumables, discussions about the ministerial appointment by the President have dominated discussion in recent times.

Collaborate with Tinubu, Adamu tasks Akpabio

The leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress has charged members of the National Assembly to collaborate with the executive arm of government in the overall interest of Nigerians.
The party gave the charge through its National Chairman, Senator Abdulahi Adamu, when the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, led some members of the Senate on Sallah homage to his Keffi residence in Nasarawa State.
Earlier, Akpabio, who was accompanied to the Keffi home of the party chairman by the Deputy President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau, and senators Dave Umahi, Ali Ndume and Opeyemi Bamidele, expressed happiness for the opportunity to pay homage to Adamu.
He described the party chairman as a man of integrity who piloted the recent zoning arrangement in the National Assembly that produced results.
Fuel subsidy made vehicles unattractive in Nigeria – World Bank

The World Bank has said the decision by the previous administration to subsidize the price of petrol hindered the development of e-mobility and use of alternative vehicles, like electric minibuses, two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
The bank in a document titled ‘E-Trans-Electric mobility and transition in Nigeria: Strategy and implementation’, published to facilitate dialogue on urban and rural clean energy e-Mobility strategies that reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, stated that the funding gulped N4.39tn in 2022.
According to the bank, e-mobility is a general term for the development of electric-powered drivetrains designed to shift vehicle design away from the use of fossil fuels.
The World Bank stated further that with the removal of fuel subsidy, the introduction of e-buses should be supported by subsidy and financing solutions to offset the high upfront cost, the electricity should come from renewables where possible, the extent of private involvement should be decided at the outset, and commuters should be encouraged to use e-buses.
OAUTH gets two CMDs

There has been confusion at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, Osun State, following the appointment of two persons as acting Chief Medical Directors for the facility within one week.
Sources in the hospital said Prof Oladiran Adegbehingbe was made the acting CMD of the hospital in a letter dated June 22, 2023, signed by Hassan Sallahu, Director Human Resources, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health.
Adegbehingbe was said to have assumed duty immediately he got the letter and was even at the ministry in Abuja on Monday where he was introduced to the officials.
But on Friday, Prof Afolabi Owojuyigbe, who succeeded the last substantive CMD, Prof Victor Adetiloye, returned to the hospital with another letter dated June 27, 2023, which addressed him as the acting CMD written by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Adebiyi Olufunso.
