Enugu: Court slates July 11 to hear Gov Mbah’s N20bn suit against NYSC

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, fixed July 11 for definite hearing of the N20 billion suit the Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Peter Mbah, slammed against the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.

Justice Inyang Ekwo okayed full blown hearing of the case, on a day he struck out an application the candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the last governorship election in the state, Mr. Chijioke Edeoga, filed to be joined as an interested party in the matter.

It will be recalled that the court had on May 15, issued an order of interim injunction that restrained the NYSC from issuing or publishing a disclaimer to disown the certificate of service the Enugu state governor tendered in aid of his qualification to contest the gubernatorial poll that held in the state on March 18.

Court nullifies Nnamani’s expulsion from PDP

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has nullified the expulsion of Senator Chimaroke Nnamani from the Peoples Democratic Party and described the action of the party as null and void.

Justice James Omotosho in his ruling following a suit filed by Senator Nnamani after the erstwhile National Chairman of the PDP, Dr Iyorchia Ayu led National Working Committee expelled him for alleged anti-party activities, said the party lacks the power to expel him.

The PUNCH had reported that the National Working Committee of the PDP had in February expelled some chieftains of the party including Nnamami over alleged anti-party activities including other weighty offences that infringe on the party’s constitution.

High infant, maternal mortality rate worries UNICEF, WHO, Otti’s wife

The World Health Organization, WHO; UNICEF; and Abia Governor’s wife, Mrs Priscilla Otti, have expressed worry over the high rate of infant and maternal mortality in Abia State.

They vowed to spare no effort in the bid to stem the tide.

Flagging off the Round 1 of 2023 Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week at Ubakala Umuahia Health Centre, the Governor’s wife, said she would collaborate with other stakeholders to reduce the rate of death among pregnant women and babies in the state

“Maternal and child deaths have remained on the increase lately and the annoying thing is that these deaths are preventable if we all work together putting in our best.

“Mortality from any preventable cause must be considered a violation of the

individual’s basic human rights and must be stopped”, she added.

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, on Tuesday, said the Board had concluded investigations on the case of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination candidate, Mmesoma Ejikeme, who was accused of fraudulently inflating her 2023 UTME score.

Oloyede made this disclosure in a transcript sent to our correspondent from Windhoek, Namibia.

He said, “The truth is that JAMB has concluded the investigation on Nmesoma’s score falsification matter. She was not the only one caught, just that others have chosen not to go out”, Oloyede said.

“Presently, there is an industry faking results and unfortunately they cannot penetrate JAMB system, reasons being that (our) system is foolproofed and we will prove it any time. It is unfortunate that parents and some of the candidates that are being fooled are not aware that they are only being fooled.
