During an interview with Arise TV, Dayo Sobowale, a prominent Nigerian activist, highlighted the concerning case of Kaduna State as an example of how negotiations with bandits can inadvertently strengthen them. Sobowale vehemently criticized the Nigerian government’s decision to provide monetary incentives to the bandits in an attempt to restore peace, as it had the opposite effect.

Sobowale emphasized that instead of using the funds for peaceful purposes, the bandits utilized the money to reinforce their criminal activities and enhance their capabilities. This unintended consequence, he argued, had dire implications for the security situation in Kaduna State and beyond.

Rather than negotiating and providing financial rewards, he urged the government to wage a determined war against the bandits and all those who undermine the peace and stability of the country.

Sobowale’s remarks resonate with the growing concerns among Nigerians who believe that offering money to bandits only emboldens them and perpetuates the cycle of violence. There is an increasing demand for a more assertive and uncompromising response from the government to confront the banditry menace and ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
