During an interview with Arise , Chike Ogeah, former Commissioner of Information, Delta State, stated that the way the Igbos voted in the last election Surprised the Yorubas, particularly in Lagos. He made the statement in reaction to the demolition of properties carried out in Alaba Market in Lagos.

Ogeah praised the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, for intervening on behalf of the Igbos to ensure that peace reigns among the people. He revealed that the Igbos would have been chased out or they’d just wake up one day to see that their properties had been demolished if not for him. He added that Uzodinma had built some level of trust in the party, which made his interaction with Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu possible.

According to him, “I think even the south-easterner would say thank God we have this man there today because if Hope Uzodinma was not in the APC and had started working with that party where he has built some trust within that party system, which really harmed the Igbos, who would be making this intervention? The Igbos will just wake up one day and have their properties demolished, or they could have been chased out of the town because, whether you like it or not, the way they voted in this last election really surprised the Yorubas, and it took them by major surprise. “
