The Guardian papers reports that as the first female judge in the state, Justice Dije Aboki has made history by being confirmed by the Kano House of Assembly as the substantive chief judge.

Following discussion of a letter sent to the assembly by the state governor, Abba Kabir-Yusuf, and read aloud by the Speaker, Ismail Falgore, at Thursday’s session, Aboki was confirmed as Kano’s first female chief judge.

It should be remembered that Justice Aboki was sworn in as the interim chief judge of Kano state by Abdullahi Ganduje, the state’s immediate past governor, in March.

The Kano State House of Assembly also approved three more commissioner nominees that Governor Kabir-Yusuf had forwarded to the Assembly.

Following a smooth screening on Thursday, which was overseen by Falgore, they were confirmed.

Ibrahim Fagge, Ibrahim Namadi, and Amina Abdullahi-Sani are the candidates who passed the screening.

After the confirmation, Falgore urged the approved candidates to uphold their positions by being devoted to their responsibilities when given portfolios.

He added advised them all to support the governor’s efforts in the growth of Kano state.

Following their confirmation, the nominees described the occasion as a summons to serve the State’s citizens.

They also pledged to play their part in Kano’s growth and to put the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) platform into practice for the state’s overall development.

Recall that 19 commissioner nominees were also interviewed and approved by the Kano State House of Assembly last month.

Another issue is that the governor of Kano State, Kabir Yusuf, demanded on Thursday that his newly appointed commissioners must serve a six-month probationary period before beginning their official duties.

He emphasized that his administration is capable of managing the work at hand and issued a warning that his government will not accept failure, laxity, or negligence.

The governor reiterated that the probationary period was meant to provide the Commissioners the means to free Kano from the agony of the bad administration it endured for eight years as he presided over the first state executive council meeting in the inner chamber of Africa House.
