The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken legal action against the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Hudu Ari. Ari is facing charges related to his illegal declaration of Aishatu Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the Adamawa State governorship election during the 2023 election. This declaration led to Ari’s arrest by the police. INEC, after reviewing the case file provided by the police, has filed a six-count charge against Ari.

According to Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, the case will be heard at the Adamawa State High Court on July 12, 2023.
