A Branch of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) located along Mission Road, Benin City, Edo State, South-South Nigeria was spared from the violent attack on banks in the city metropolis by angry protesters as a result of the deadline on the usage of the old 1000, 500, and 200 naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Nigerians from different parts of the country took to the streets to protest the unavailability of the new naira notes and the attendant suffering it has caused.

No fewer than three lives were lost in the clash, while several banks were destroyed and their ATMs vandalised.
In a viral video, protesters could be seen protecting FCMB, Mission Road branch. They (protesters) said the bank had been paying customers since the naira scarcity started through all available channels and therefore said no one should attack it.
One of the protesters who spoke to Gatekeepers News, praised the bank’s branch manager, Mr Dauda Momodu for the way he has piloted affairs of the bank during this period and urged all other bank managers to emulate him.
Some of the protesters were seen protecting the bank building and ATMs from being destroyed.
