In a statement that was captured by Vanguard papers on their official website, The World Bank has appointed Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, the recently retired Minister of Finance, as an Alternate Executive Director.

Barring any delays, she will return on July 10 to the bank’s Washington headquarters.

However, several parties, who alleged that the former minister disregarded the law, seem to be fighting back.

According to sources in Washington, who were reported by a website today, Mrs. Ahmed nominated herself to avoid the selection process.

Six months before President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration came to an end, the World Bank also requested the names of three economists, according to the story, but the minister kept the request to herself.

Additionally, it was said that the minister was unsuccessful in getting Sen. Bola Tinubu’s or President Buhari’s endorsement for her self-nomination.

A senior federal official who is familiar with the World Bank’s processes told Vanguard that Mrs. Ahmed did not make any mistakes during the appointment.

The insider asserts that it is difficult for her to designate herself. She didn’t fare as well. President Buhari validated her legitimate nomination by the Ministry of Finance before he left.

This kind of candidacy is typical; no one objected when a former director general of the budget was nominated in the latter days of the Jonathan administration. True injustice.

The report claims that the position of AED is often held by former ministers of finance who are either alternate governors of the World Bank or permanent secretaries in federal ministries of finance.
