During an interview with Arise , Chike Ogeah, former Commissioner for Information, Delta State, stated that if he’s being divided, he’s Half Igbo and half Yoruba, pointing out that he wonders why it always ends up with the Igbos and the Yorubas. He made the statement in reaction to the demolition of properties in Alaba Market in Lagos.

Ogeah stated that the Yoribas are not the problem of the Igbos, and the Igbos are not the problem of the Yorubas, but if the matter is traced to the civil war, it always ends up as that. He, however, commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for coming to a resolution with the Igbo leaders as regards the issue.

According to him, “I’m happy that there’s a cosmopolitan governor in Lagos at a time like this in the name of someone like Jide Sanwo-Olu because if you had a hard-line Yoruba irredentist person as a governor today, then before you know what’s happening, these are where the flare-ups will come from, and you know it has always surprised me because, you see, if you divide me into two, I’m Half Igbo, so I wonder why in Nigeria it always ends up with the Igbos and Yorubas. Meanwhile, at the beginning of the matter, the Yorubas are not the problem of the Igbos, and the Igbos are not the problem of the Yorubas, but somehow, even if you go back to the civil war, it ends up as that.”
