According to Sahara Reporters, Chinyere Obi, a 74-year-old former military officer, has criticized the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for allegedly abandoning her after she was shot by political thugs in Imo State due to her dedication to the party.
Chinyere, a retired colonel and a member of the Labour Party, expressed her regret in Abuja, stating that neither the party nor Peter Obi had contacted her following the incident. She revealed that she had to sell her Honda Pilot SUV to cover her medical expenses, emphasizing that she didn’t expect financial assistance but rather support from the party.
She explained how she was attacked while attempting to defend a Labour Party polling unit agent during the election. Unknown political thugs threatened the agent and Chinyere at her polling station, and she was shot in the leg. Chinyere, who has diabetes, expressed concerns that the shooting might result in the amputation of her leg.
Chinyere expressed disappointment that no one from the Labour Party, including Peter Obi or the ousted national chairman Julius Abure, had visited or expressed regret for the incident. She stated that she regretted joining the party and questioned her decision to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) when Obi joined the Labour Party.
Chinyere also called on President Bola Tinubu to address Nigeria’s insecurity, particularly in the southeast. She expressed her belief in Tinubu’s abilities and her hope that he would allete the nation’s suffering.
