Jesutega Onokpasa, a prominent Nigerian lawyer and Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has strongly defended the credibility of the 2023 general election. In response to the European Union’s final report on the election, Onokpasa stated that most of the concerns raised by Nigerians were not even mentioned in the report. He specifically mentioned that the transmission of election results is not mandatory.

Hear him “INEC is not God. The law does not compel the impossible. There is no duty on INEC to transmit results, I don’t know what Peter Obi’s lawyers are up to with respect to Dr Livy Uzoukwu I don’t know what type of case they are having there.” Jesutega Onokpasa said.

According to Onokpasa, he is uncertain about the intentions of Mr. Peter Obi’s legal team and the petition they have filed. He acknowledged that there were some shortcomings in the election process, but he believes that such flaws exist in elections worldwide. He emphasized that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is not infallible and is not obligated to perform impossible tasks.

Onokpasa further questioned the nature of the case being pursued by Peter Obi’s lawyers, particularly in relation to Dr. Livy Uzoukwu. By making these statements, Onokpasa implied that the concerns raised by Obi’s legal team may not be well-founded or relevant to the overall credibility of the election.
