According to Sahara reporters Chinyere Obi, a 74-year-old former military commander, has accused the Labour Party and Mr. Peter Obi, who is running for president in 2023, of abandoning her after she was shot by political thugs in Imo State for her dedication to the party.
Chinyere, a retired colonel and Labour Party supporter, expressed regret that neither the party nor Peter Obi had contacted her after she was shot in the leg while supporting the party’s presidential candidate, according to Legit.
The elderly woman described how she had to sell her Honda Pilot SUV to pay for her medical care following the incident, adding that she had not anticipated Peter Obi or the party to pay her bills but rather to express support.
She stated, “I had to sell my Honda Pilot Jeep in June for N1.5 million so that I could afford to get my gunshot wound treated. I’m selling my possessions at the age of 74 in order to get better forever.
I am entitled to my pension and other benefits as a retired colonel. I wasn’t even requesting money; instead, I was angry that no one apologized to me or even came to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) hospital to express their regret.
“I battled and ran for office in support of Obi and the youth so that Nigeria might change. I don’t need anything because I and all of my children are British citizens. I bought rice for N5 million, visited people, and met women all throughout the country, so I have nothing to gain or lose.
In order to shed additional light on how she was attacked, 74-year-old Chinyere stated that she attempted to defend a Labour Party polling unit agent in her hometown of Ideato South Local Government Area, Imo State, when the incident first occurred.
She claimed that on election day, some unnamed political thugs broke into her polling place, threatened the Labour Party polling place agent, and threatened her as she attempted to step in.
She recalled, “The next thing I heard was pooh-pooh! I felt gunshot wounds on my leg.
She mentioned having diabetes and said the shooting would have necessitated amputating her leg, but “nobody from Labour Party, nor Abure (referring to the LP’s ousted national head Julius Abure) or even Peter Obi sent a word or visited.
“Only two people from the Labour Party sent me messages. I repent and despise the day I joined the Labour Party. When Obi left the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) to join the Labour Party, I did likewise.
But she asked President Bola Tinubu to step up efforts to tackle Nigeria’s insecurity, particularly in the southeast.
She affirmed her faith in President Tinubu’s abilities and her certainty that he would put an end to the nation’s suffering.
