A public affairs analyst, Mohammed Abdullahi, has backed the report by the EU elections observation regarding the 2023 election. In his interview on Plus TV, Abdullahi recalled some critical issues that marred the election, which could prove the EU’s claims.

The analyst addressed the topic, saying, “I think the EU report tainted the image of the election. With that report, it seems APC’s victory is tainted with skirmishes along with inefficiency and inadequacy by the election umpire. I understand why the APC-led government refuted the report by saying it was unacceptable. However, I know the opposition parties like the LP will be happy about such reports because they amplify all that they have been fighting for in court and on social media. It depends on which side of the coin one lies on.

He added, “I think the EU made a good point, but it does not outright say that the election was not freely conducted to some extent. During the election, the will of Nigerians prevailed in some instances, while people in other instances should be allowed to register their grievances over INEC’s conduct. INEC promised Nigerians that results would be uploaded in real time, and that did not happen during the presidential election. There were also reports of violence and the late arrival of election materials. There were also claims of coordinated attacks on areas where the opposition parties could gain votes. I think the EU report is not far from the truth. Even though it is not entirely true.
