Gunmen attacked a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Abule-Ori, Ogun State, killing the pastor and kidnapping seven worshippers. The Commander of the Ogun State security outfit, So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzallo, confirmed the incident and reported that his officers successfully rescued the kidnapped church members while eliminating one of the kidnappers during the operation.

The Director of Information and Public Relations of So-Safe, Moruf Yusuf, released a statement revealing that the attack took place at around 12 a.m. on Saturday, July 1. Ganzallo explained that the Owode-Egba Zonal Command, led by ACC Jimoh Rasaki Omoniyi, received a distress call about the assault on the members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Desires of Nations Parish, located in Abule-Ori. During a vigil, the attackers targeted the church, resulting in the pastor’s death and the abduction of seven individuals.

Upon receiving the distress call, the So-Safe Corps officers swiftly initiated a special operation to track down the culprits and ensure the safe rescue of the kidnapped victims. Ganzallo stated that the officers immediately sprang into action. Their efforts were fruitful, as all seven victims were successfully rescued unharmed. In the process, one kidnapper was killed, and several others sustained serious injuries during a gunfire exchange.

A joint team comprising the Police and the So-Safe Corps is now pursuing the fleeing suspected kidnappers with the intention of capturing them alive. The deceased kidnapper’s body has been taken to a nearby morgue for further procedures and investigation.
