The leader of the apex Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, has made it clear that he won’t comment on the administration of President Bola Tinubu until the Supreme Court affirms his victory. While speaking in an interview with Arise TV, he noted that the group supported the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, and they did so because the South East geopolitical zone was ‘short-changed’.
Speaking further, Pa Adebanjo said that it wasn’t a question of the capability or ability of the candidate, adding that they cannot continue to discriminate against a significant section of the country.
He said, “Go and read why we supported Peter Obi. It wasn’t a question of capability or ability. For long, we have been saying that a significant section of the country has been short-changed. You are discriminating against a significant unit of the federation.
So our own group standing on this principle won’t approbate and reprobate. The constitution provides that if the election was conducted, anyone who isn’t satisfied with it should go to the tribunal and lay down the complaints. That is where we are.”
