Oseni Rufai, a Nigerian journalist and reporter for Arise , has responded to the European Union Election Monitoring Group’s report in light of the allegations of defects that were allegedly present in the way the 2023 elections were conducted.

Remember how the European Union Election Monitoring Group asserted in a report that the 2023 election was, in reality, replete with irregularities and fell short of the necessary level of confidence for the conduct of an electoral process.

The Independence National Electoral Commission, or INEC, was blamed by the Arise Reporter in response to this article for dashnig Nigerians’ hopes by holding the 2023 poll, claiming it was an election that made so many promises but delivered so little.

Speaking further, he said Festus Okoye, the national commissioner of INEC, had demonstrated the election’s flaws and lack of legitimacy when, in a recent interview with Arise , he refused to describe the nature of the technological problems that happened throughout the election process.

Many Nigerians, in his words, “want to forget the agony of the last election, an election that promised so much but delivered so little. There was strife everywhere during the same election that sowed ethnic divide in Lagos and during which town criers seemed to urge citizens not to cast ballots. Does the person standing up to defend this election have any connection to it?

I am aware that there will be a technical analysis report on the nature of the technological error in an election where INEC has not yet clarified what kind of technical error took place. The first thing INEC should have done is disclose that report, but as of yet, I haven’t seen anything of the such. Did you notice that Mr. Festus Okoye was unable to clarify the specifics of the technological issue that occurred during the election and instead stated that the case was still pending in court when our colleague requested him to do so?
