Festus Keyamo, the chief spokesman of the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, has responded to the reactions following the release of the European Union (EU) report on the 2023 elections in Nigeria. Keyamo addressed the comments about the legitimacy of President Tinubu, which have been circulating on social media in response to the report.
In his statement, Keyamo reminded Nigerians that irregularities are common in elections and emphasized that the EU report does not determine the winner of the Nigerian elections. He criticized those who are celebrating the report and questioned whether they would have the same enthusiasm when the final decision is made by the court.
Keyamo expressed that the power to legitimize or delegitimize the government lies with the judiciary and not with external reports. He urged people to be patient and wait for the judgment of the properly constituted law courts regarding the 2023 elections, suggesting that accepting and embracing the court’s decision would require the same level of excitement and acceptance as the EU report received.
