Dele Farotimi highlighted Peter Obi’s primary interest in the electoral process rather than solely focusing on President Tinubu himself. Obi believes that a flawed process would render the outcome unacceptable. He emphasizes that if the judiciary is indeed the last hope for the common man, it should critically examine the electoral procedures to ensure fairness and transparency. Obi’s concern lies in safeguarding the integrity of the democratic system and ensuring that the will of the people is accurately reflected in the election results.

During an interview with Channels Television, retired Nigerian lawyer Dele Farotimi responded to Seun Okinbaloye’s question about Peter Obi’s hopes of winning at the tribunal. Farotimi clarified that Obi’s primary concern lies in the electoral process rather than solely focusing on President Tinubu himself. According to Farotimi, Obi is more interested in the integrity and fairness of the electoral process. If the process is flawed, Obi believes that the outcome will not be acceptable.

According to him, “There was a misunderstanding when Mr. Peter Obi said that, and I’ll explain. When he says that he’s focused on the process, what he’s explaining is that the process itself, if it is flawed, fundamentally flawed, open to manipulation, and not transparent, what it has produced cannot be said to be good, so let’s deal with that process, look at how it has affected the outcome, and if the process is deemed to be bad, the product is obviously not going to be acceptable. It is our belief that if the judiciary is indeed the last hope of the common man, if it is not to capitulate and ensure the death of this democracy, then it must look at the process that has produced the incongruent situation that we have found ourselves in today and then tell us, Is this normal?”

Farotimi emphasized that Obi’s focus on the electoral process stems from his belief that if the judiciary truly serves as the last hope of the common man, it should carefully scrutinize the electoral procedures. By examining the integrity of the process, Obi seeks to ensure that the final results are based on a fair and transparent system. He believes that if the electoral process is compromised, it undermines the very essence of democracy.
