The power of social media can make or break reputations. However, a recent case has seen a lady facing the consequences of her false claims against Nigerian actress Eniola Badmus.

According Channels Television, a female TikTok user, Nwakaego Okoye has been sentenced to three years imprisonment for cyberstalking Nollywood actress, Eniola Badmus.

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos Wednesday sentenced a lady, Okoye Blessing Nwakaego, to three years imprisonment for cyberstalking Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus a social media app, TikTok.

However, Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal high court convicted her on two counts of cyberstalking on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, after she pled guilty to the charges.

Recall that, Nwakaego Okoye accused Badmus of connecting ladies to Nigerian politicians for prostitution.

However, Okoye, who was apprehended for making defamatory statements about Eniola Badmus, admitted to defaming the actress because her friend, Fortune Ibe promised to pay her N200,000.

Besides, the judge gave her an option of paying a fine of N150,000 in lieu of jail time.

@statesmanblog said that, “The accusations against Eniola Badmus was made on a popular social media platform (TikTok), where the accuser claimed that Eniola Badmus was connecting ladies to politicians.

Though, freedom of expression is a fundamental right enshrined in democratic societies, allowing individuals to express their opinions and ideas freely. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and one must exercise this freedom judiciously and with respect for the truth.
