Mr. Trudeau’s office said in a statement that even though the pair had signed a separation agreement, they would continue to make public appearances.

“They have worked to ensure that all legal and ethical steps with regards to their decision to separate have been taken, and will continue to do so moving forward,” the statement stated, adding that they will be on vacation as a family next week.

For the “well-being” of their three children, Xavier, 15, Ella-Grace, 14, and Hadrien, 9, the couple has requested for solitude.

“We remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build,” said Mr Trudeau, 51, and Ms Gregoire Trudeau, 48.

They have been seen together less frequently in public in recent years, but they did attend King Charles III’s coronation in May and entertained US Vice President Joe Biden in Canada in March.
