The recent response to the report by the European Union Election Monitoring Group regarding alleged flaws and irregularities during the 2023 electoral process has been voiced by Osita Okechukwu, the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria and a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The European Union Election Monitoring Group had previously stated in its report that the 2023 election was marred by irregularities and fell short of meeting the basic standards of election credibility.

In light of this, Osita, an APC Chieftain, challenged the EU’s perspective and claimed that the Union failed to grasp the reality that it was practically impossible for their opposition parties—the PDP, Labour Party, and NNPP, which appeared to be the major opponents of the APC—to have emerged victorious in the presidential election due to their internal divisions throughout the electoral process.

During an interview with Arise , the Chieftain conveyed his viewpoint, stating, “The EU has deliberately overlooked the crucial aspect, which the State House Department is attempting to clarify, that the opposition parties within the APC were unable to secure victory because a house divided against itself cannot stand.”

He further elaborated, emphasizing that if Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had managed the rotational convention within the PDP, there would not have been the emergence of the Kwakwansiya group, which garnered the highest number of votes per state in Kano, and the ‘Obidients’ would not have materialized. Therefore, the Chieftain believes that the State Department’s message is that the EU merely focused on the conduct of the election while neglecting to closely consider the internal conflicts both within and between political parties that arose during the preparation for the election.
