Many hours ago, Alhaji Asari Mujahid Dokubo went live on Facebook to narrate the discussion he had with a traditional title holder from Onitsha in Anambra state about the real tribes in Anambra.
The former niger-delta militant said, “I will not reveal the name of the traditional title holder and professor but I met him at a hotel in Dubai some years ago. When we dabbled into history in our discussion, he told me he is from Onitsha but he is not an Igbo man. He even argued with me that Anambra state is originally not an igbo state.” He added, “this is why I want igbos to ask themselves why people are always denying being igbo.”
Narrating further, Alhaji Asari Mujahid Dokubo said, “the man also told me that he is a Benin man who found himself in Igbo land. This man was dressed in an Onitsha traditional title holder attire but argued that there are many igala and Edo people living in Onitsha. The traditional title holder again said that many people in Anambra decided to accept the common identity of being Igbo because of inclusivity.”
Lastly, the Kalabari kingdom’s chief said, “we all know that there was a time a well known footballer named Sunday Oliseh made it clear that he is not an igbo man. Also, the former service chief named General Lucky Irabor also clarified that he is not Igbo. So, why are people denying this tribe?”
