The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulahi Adamu, has denounced the appointment of the party’s principal officers announced by the Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
Mr Adamu said the list of new principal officers announced by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the House Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, did not emanate from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Mr Adamu, a former senator, stated this during a meeting with APC governors on Tuesday at the National Secretariat of the party.
Governors were escorted to the meeting by Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), the organisation that represents all APC governors.
The senate president and the speaker introduced the new chief executives of their respective houses at the start of session on Tuesday, according to PREMIUM TIMES.
Opeyemi Bamidele was elected as the Senate’s leader, and Julius Ihonvbere was elected as the House’s leader.
Mr. Adamu claimed that the NWC had not approved the reports of some of the APC’s top officers of both chambers making an appearance.
According to him, the NWC did not send any lists to Messrs. Akpabio and Abbas.
“I have just heard a rumour that there have been announcements in the Senate and House of Representatives the online media.
“The NWC, the party’s national headquarters, has not yet provided any such information or communicated regarding the selection of officers.
“And we do not aim to depart from customs until we publicly resolve them and communicate with them in writing, which is the custom and practise. So, Mr. Adamu stated, whatever announcement is made is not from this secretariat.
The members of the party with the majority, not the NWC, are to nominate the House’s leader, as stated in the Standing Orders of the House.
