Amid the ongoing public uproar that has trailed the report submitted by the European Union on the conduct of the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oladotun Hassan has accused the organization of attempting to give credence to spurious allegations of rigging leveled against his party by the LP Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed during a live interview he granted shortly after the winner of the polls was declared.
Recall that a few days ago, reports began making the rounds indicating that the EU Observer Mission to Nigeria submitted a damning report on the February 25 presidential elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It was gathered that the Organization, through its report, highlighted several issues concerning the credibility of the polls, as well as INEC’s conduct during and after the exercise.
However, while appearing on ARISE TV’s ‘The Morning Show’ on Monday, Hassan, who was a member of the now-defunct Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, argued that the EU, through its report, is not only attempting to echo the scathing criticism launched by Datti Baba-Ahmed against the APC a few months ago but is also giving credence to the accusation leveled against the ruling party by the LP vice presidential candidate on live television.
He said; “I saw the content of the EU report and I want to bring some of it to the fore. There was a statement, that during the entire electoral process, was made by the Vice Presidential Candidate for of the Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed. Through their report, the EU gave a blanket support to the statement Baba-Ahmed made on Channels TV, irrespective of the fact that such remarks have since been condemned as seditious and criminal.
In its report, the EU targeted the APC as if it was the only condemned cow that must be taken to Golgotha. But these people must realize that we are a nation and no longer a colony.”
