The chief spokesman of the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, Festus Keyamo, has responded to the several comments about President Tinubu’s legitimacy making rounds on social media since the release of the European Union report on the outcome of the 2023 elections in Nigeria.

Recall that the European Union Electoral Observer Mission had issued a report on the elections, describing it as a product of a poorly-done desk job that relied heavily on few persons, stirring reactions from Nigerians some of who believe that the mandate belongs to their preferred candidate, Mr Peter Obi.

However, speaking up on the report, the Senior Advocate reminded Nigerians that there are no elections without irregularities and that the EU report cannot tell who won the elections in Nigeria. He further berated those rejoicing excitedly about the report, wondering if they’ll have the same ‘anointing’ when the court finally decides on the matter.

He wrote, “…all the hoopla over that EU report is neither here nor there when it comes to legitimising or delegitimising the government of the day. That power or responsibility belongs to the judiciary. I hope those who are now gyrating excitedly as if they are ‘speaking in tongues’ over the EU report will also have the spirit and ‘anointing’ to accept and embrace the actual forensic judgment by our properly constituted law courts when they eventually decide on the 2023 elections.”
