A few hours ago, former Kaduna lawmaker, Shehu Sani took to social media to wade in on the ongoing faceoff between the Bola Tinubu administration and the European Union over the latter’s damning report on the just-concluded general elections.
Recall that a few days ago, reports began making the rounds indicating that the European Union Election Observatory submitted a comprehensive report to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) detailing its thoughts on the conduct of the polls. It was also gathered that the EU report threw up several questions regarding the credibility of the elections based on the inconsistencies and flaws observed.
However, in an official statement released to State House Correspondents on Sunday, the Tinubu-led Nigerian presidency rejected the EU’s report, describing it as ‘jaundiced and biased’.
Going further, the statement also accused the Union of attempting to discredit an election that was won by Tinubu in a most free and fair manner, insisting that the Organization cannot judge the outcome of the polls based on its own ‘colonial’ standards.
Taking to his verified Twitter handle to react to the faceoff between the presidency and the European Union, Sani, who is a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pointed out that if the EU contributed money to aid in the conduct of an election, it is expected, therefore, that the Organization will equally write a report on what it observed during the polls.
As expected, Sani’s remarks have drawn a flurry of mixed reactions from Nigerians online, with many trooping to the comments section to share their thoughts.
