The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has recalled that when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the governor of Lagos State, he used to go and visit him. He said that Tinubu is a friend to many Igbo people including himself. He said this during an interview with The Punch which was published on Sunday July 2nd.

He said that the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization supported the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the last election, but now they are not in the court with him. He said – “People have made comments about the election, but I will not allow my office to make a comment I cannot substantiate. I want to mention that Bola Tinubu, the President, is a friend to many Igbo including me. I used to visit him even when he was the governor of Lagos State.”

Speaking further, Iwuanyanwu said that Tinubu has started well, and that he is more concerned with bringing everyone together. He said that he will keep telling the Igbo youths to believe in Nigeria and know that they have a future in the country.

He said that he is not saying that if they have an Igbo President, everything would be fine for the Igbos, because the truth is that a non-Igbo President might actually do more for the people than an Igbo President.
