To avoid speculation over the results of the general elections in 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has explained.
Tuesday’s meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja featured remarks from INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
The gathering signaled the beginning of the official review of the way the elections were conducted.
“Following the election, the time has come for reflection, stocktaking, review, and evaluation,” Yakubu stated.
Since the election, a variety of viewpoints on various parts of the February and March elections have been voiced by political parties, candidates, observers, analysts, and members of the general public.
Such a wide range of viewpoints is to be expected, he added, and the commission welcomes them all so long as they aim to strengthen our democracy and future electoral processes.
According to The Punch, the head of INEC claimed that, for several reasons, the commission purposefully refrained from participating in the post-election commentary.
Almost anything emanating from the commission, according to Yakubu, might be used by litigants to support their claims or show that the agency is biased against them.
