Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has claimed that the Igbos’ wealth in Nigeria has attracted unwanted envy to the tribe.
In an interview with Punch paper, he stated that the Igbos are the only tribe that is still devoted to Nigeria’s constitution, which speaks of nation building. He claimed that since Nigeria’s union, the Igbos have taken on the burden of traveling from state to state across the country to develop the country.
”The problem Igbo have is that we are very faithful to the Nigerian constitution, which states that every Nigerian is free to go, live, and work peacefully and joyfully anywhere in Nigeria and contribute to the development of such areas,” he said. That is what our Constitution states, and the Igbos have pursued it since 1914, but because of their resourcefulness, they have succeeded wherever they go naturally, not only in Nigeria, but all over the world. When a people dominates and excels, it draws jealousy.”
