The Nigerian community is in mourning following the tragic death of 23-year-old Tamilore Odunsi, a nursing student who was found dead in her Houston, Texas apartment just days before her graduation.

Her promising future was cut short on April 28 when police discovered her body during a welfare check prompted by a concerned friend after Odunsi’s family in the UK lost contact with her. According to the Houston Police Department, officers found blood at the rear of her apartment and forced their way in, where they found Odunsi deceased in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds.
Also found at the scene was a male roommate, critically injured with stab wounds of his own. He had reportedly moved in only weeks earlier and was not known to Odunsi prior to that time. He remains hospitalized, and authorities have not yet disclosed whether he is a suspect or a victim in the ongoing investigation.
Just a week before her death, Odunsi posted a joyful TikTok video celebrating her achievements with captions like “23 years old,” “BSN grad in 2 weeks,” and “Vacations booked.” Her death has sparked grief across the Nigerian diaspora and among fellow students and TikTok followers.
Odunsi’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the repatriation of her body to the United Kingdom and to cover funeral expenses. Described as a devout Christian with a heart for helping children through healthcare, her death has left many reeling.
As of now, the Houston Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing. No arrests have been made, and the motive remains unclear.
