Top 10 Most Expensive States to Live in Nigeria – March 2025

  1. Bauchi
    Bauchi continues to top the list with an all-items inflation rate of 46.05%. Although food inflation slightly decreased to 34.35%, other factors such as housing and transportation contribute significantly to the high cost of living.

  2. Jigawa
    Jigawa has seen a sharp increase in all-items inflation, rising to 40.76%. Despite a decrease in food inflation to 42.57%, the overall living expenses remain high due to other economic pressures.

  3. Kebbi
    Kebbi’s all-items inflation rate has risen to 37.47%, with food inflation at 38.50%. The state’s economic challenges contribute to its position among the most expensive states.

  4. Kogi
    Kogi has experienced a decrease in all-items inflation to 36.73%; however, food inflation has surged to 46.31%, indicating that food costs are a major driver of living expenses.

  5. Sokoto
    Sokoto’s all-items inflation rate stands at 35.93%, with food inflation at 41.70%. The high cost of essential goods and services places it among the top expensive states.

  6. Abia
    Abia maintains a high cost of living with an all-items inflation rate of 35.90% and food inflation increasing to 44.01%, highlighting the significant impact of food prices on residents.

  7. Edo
    Edo is among the states with the highest cost of living, driven by rising food prices and electricity bills.

  8. Enugu
    Enugu ranks high in living expenses, with factors such as housing and transportation costs contributing to its position.

  9. Sokoto
    Sokoto appears again in the rankings, indicating consistent high living costs across various sectors.

  10. Rivers
    Rivers State rounds out the top ten, with significant expenses in housing and utilities affecting the overall cost of living.
