Militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has bragged that President Muhammadu Buhari hired him to protect the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
Daily Trust reports that the highway gained a reputation for being unsafe for travelers during the Buhari-led administration, due to frequent kidnappings and murders.
But in the twilight of the immediate past government, reports of violence crashed significantly.
When he visited President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock last month, Dokubo had boasted that his men were the ones responsible for the stability being enjoyed on that axis.
He had said: “There is a full-scale war going on and the blackmail of the Nigerian state by the Nigerian military is shameful. They said they do not have enough armament and people listen to this false narrative. They are lying. They are liars. I repeat they are liars because I am a participant.
“I am a participant in this war. I fight on the side of the government of the Nigerian state in Plateau, Niger, Anambra, Imo, Abia and Rivers. And in Abuja today, you are travelling to Kaduna on this road. It is not the army that makes it possible for you to travel to Abuja or travel to Kaduna, and vice versa.
Tambuwal Loyal To PDP – Group

The PDP Action 2023, a political pressure group, says the former governor of Sokoto State, Sen. Aminu Tambuwal, never betrayed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Nigeria in the course of his service to the party and the nation.
The Chairman of the group, Dr Rufus Omeire, in a statement he issued in Abuja on Sunday, described Tambuwal (PDP-Sokoto) as a team player, who had defended the ideas of the party and interest of Nigeria at every point in time.
He condemned an allegation that Tambuwal during the PDP presidential primary election in 2022 betrayed the party.
Omeire said that since who will emerge as the minority leader of the 10th Senate became a topical issue, several unfounded allegations and sponsored stories against Tambuwal had surfaced in the media.
They alleged that he has once betrayed some people and PDP. Behind these allegations is an attempt to re-litigate the 2022 PDP presidential primaries.
“They have consistently tried to pin on him the issue of betrayal of some of his friends because of the patriotic role he played during the PDP National Convention,” Omeire said.
He said while the group did not hold brief for Tambuwal, the Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District had shown interest in the PDP presidential nomination long before some people suddenly appeared on the scene.

The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu yesterday assured President Bola Tinubu and the entire country that security agencies will accomplish the objective of securing the country as well as re-establish peace and stability.
Ribadu was responding to the President’s charge that they should work as a team to deliver on the mandate of dealing with the protracted security challenges in the country.
His charge came against the backdrop of the insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes that have threatened the corporate existence of the country.
Briefing State House correspondents at the end of the President’s maiden meeting with the security chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the NSA, Mallam Ribadu, said: “The President directed them to work as a team and deliver on their mandate.
Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, he said: “We’re here to thank Mr President for the opportunity he gave us to serve our country and to serve his own government. We also pledged our loyalty to him, Nigeria and Nigerians.
Consider Amnesty For Bandits, Yerima Tells Tinubu

Former governor of Zamfara State, Ahmad Yerima, has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider dialogue with bandits to end insecurity in the North-West region of the country.
Yerima advocated that the Federal Government should negotiate with “repentant” bandits. He argued that using military force would result in “collateral damage” and, therefore, should be considered a last resort.
Earlier in a BBC Hausa interview, the ex-governor had called on governors in the North-West to have a dialogue with bandits terrorising the region.
“The best way to go about handling the issue of bandits is to introduce dialogue first. But as I said, if that fails, then the government will go all out to eliminate them,” he said after a courtesy visit to the President on Monday at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
For nearly a decade, Zamfara State, located in North-West Nigeria, has been a flashpoint of armed conflict between the military and bandits who have struggled to control mineral-rich regions of the state.
Yerima said Tinubu should consider an amnesty programme for bandits in the North, like the late President Umar Yar’Adua did for the Niger Delta militants.
“I believe that the Nigerian military has the capacity to deal with them (bandits) if so directed and given the resources, support, and political will.

The National Industrial Court in Abuja, on Monday, ordered the Police Service Commission to pay N40m damages to retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu, for forcing him to retire from the Force prematurely.
The court, in a judgment by Justice Osatohanmwen Obaseki-Osaghae, nullified Mbu’s retirement, holding that he remained an officer of the Nigeria Police Force until May 10, 2018, when he clocked 60.
“I hold that the claimant’s premature retirement, through a press release on July 2, 2016, is unlawful, unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect,” Justice Obaseki-Osaghae held.
The judge ordered the PSC to pay Mbu his salaries, allowances and entitlements from July 2, 2016, when he was prematurely retired, to May 10, 2018, which ought to be his proper retirement date at 60 years.
The judge also awarded in Mbu’s favour N750,000 as the cost of filing the suit.
Justice Obaseki-Osaghae said the PSC must comply with the judgment within 30 days, else the judgment would attract 10 per cent annual interest.
