Why Tinubu Govt, Govs Can’t Dialogue With Bandits–Sani

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, on Sunday listed reasons state governors, and the Federal Government can’t dialogue with bandits.
Sani disclosed that bandits are not like Boko Haram and ISWAP that murder people under the guise of religion.
He said bandits are armed movement pursuing religious, ethnic, or political agenda.
He said bandits ha be no single leadership but operate in clusters and as criminal gangs.
Tweeting, the sociopolitical commentator wrote: “Dialogue with bandits will not work because of these three reasons; they are not an armed movement founded for the pursuit of any religious, ethnic or political causes, other than extortion by atrocious blackmail, abductions and cold-blooded murder of innocent citizens.
“Two, they are not united under a single leadership but operate in clusters and criminal gangs; three, their motivation is money; they kill and abduct for money.
SERAP Writes Tinubu, Seeks Spending Details of N400bn Fuel Subsidy Savings

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use his good offices and leadership position to “urgently publish details of spending of about N400bn so far saved as a result of the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly called petrol.”
SERAP urged him to “provide details of the plans on how subsequent savings from the removal of subsidy on petrol, including specific projects on which the funds would be spent, and the mechanisms that have been put in place to ensure that any such savings are not embezzled, misappropriated or diverted into private pockets.”
According to reports, the Federal Government has saved N400bn within the four weeks following the implementation of the policy on the removal of payment of subsidy on petrol.
In the letter dated 1 July 2023 and signed by SERAP deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare, the organisation said: “Your government has a legal responsibility to ensure that the savings from the removal of subsidy on petrol are spent solely for the benefit of the 137 million poor Nigerians who are bearing the brunt of the removal.”
SERAP said, “Prevention of corruption in the spending of savings from the removal of subsidy on petrol and preventing and addressing the challenges caused by the removal are serious and legitimate public interests.”

As the negative effect of the fuel subsidy removal bites harder on the people, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr Olusola Jimoh has called on President Bola Tinubu to act fast in providing the expected palliatives to the citizens.
He explained that the suffering and hardship being faced by the people daily in the last one month were excruciating, adding that there is need for the government to do something urgently to address the situation before it is late.
The party leader stated that the Tinubu-led government should not take the people for granted as a result of the impact of the subsidy removal which he said has resulted in massive increase in cost of food items, transportation and other essentials.
Jimoh, who was the PDP House of Assembly candidate for Okitipupa constituency 1 in the 2023 general election spoke while playing host to party leaders and supporters in the council area in the mood of Sallah festivities in his country home of Igbotako at the weekend.
Some of the leaders at the gathering were, Senator Boluwaji Kunlere, Hon Bamido Omogbehin, Mr. Adeolu Akinseye, State Assistant Treasurer; Okitipupa local government Organising Secretary, Joshua Lema; Okitipupa local government Assistant Secretary, Ojo Enisan; Chief Fayemiro LG financial Secretary; Mr Segun Awotula LG Ex officio and Elder Folorunsho Ajayi.
Tinubu Departs Lagos For Abuja

President Bola Tinubu on Sunday left Lagos where he has been on Sallah holidays for Abuja.
Before departing the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Tinubu in the company of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu took the salute Nigeria Army parade.
During his five days stay in Lagos, the president paid a courtesy visit to the paramount rulers of Ijebu, Egba, and Eko.
He also played host to the President of Guinea Bissau and Chairman, Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, Umaro Sissoco Embalo in his Lagos residence on Saturday
