INEC opens and closes defense in Peter Obi’s petition
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC this Tuesday opened its defense in the petition filed by Peter Obi and the Labour Party by calling one out of the three witnesses the commission had earlier called to testify before the Presidential Election Petition Court.
The witness, Dr Lawrence Bayode, an ICT expert who adopted his deposition before the court and was Led in evidence-in-chief by INEC counsel, Abubakar Mahmoud, identified a cloud trail log while making reference to alleged glitches during upload of results.
When cross-examined by counsel for APC, Lateef Fagbemi, and that of Tinubu and Shettima, Wole Olanipekun, the witness admitted that the perceived glitches did not affect the upload of the results, and that, where results downloaded from IREV aren’t clear, physical results can be obtained.
During cross-examination by the counsel for Labour Party, Patrick Ikwueto, the witness agreed that there was a performance and functionality test done on February 4, to identify the vulnerability of the server that INEC worked with.
The witness told the court that the essence of the performance test which was done at the pre-production stage was to determine how the system would perform under heavy usage, and testing was done at the back-end of the server to ensure that the system is well secured.
He also stated that the functionality test was to know if the system could function optimally.
However, the witness told the court that the server was not vulnerable when asked how vulnerable the server was.
The labour party counsel while referring to a report on the test, said the report identified the remediation to be undertaken to resolve the high vulnerability identified in the results, but the witness who agreed to the existence of the test report said it was not before the court.

Enugu threatens to shut schools, markets observing sit-at-home
The Enugu state government has threatened to shut down schools and markets observing the one week sit-at-home order issued by Simon Ekpa.
On June 14, Ekpa, a self-acclaimed disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), declared a total lockdown from July 3 to 10, excluding July 6, in the state.
In a statement on Tuesday, Chidiebere Onyia, secretary to the state government, said the government is “alarmed and dismayed” by the development.
He, therefore, warned that any school that fails to open and function normally on Tuesday will have its licence revoked immediately.
He added that the warning extends to market unions and shop owners.
“The attention of the Enugu state government has been drawn to reports on social media this Tuesday morning that proprietors of private schools in the state are sending messages to their pupils and students to stay at home,” Onyia said.
“This is on account of the illegal one week sit-at-home order allegedly declared by faceless non-state actors in the state.
Tinubu Government’s Continued Detention Of Suspended EFCC Chair, Bawa Without Charges Is Politically Motivated – Lawyer
A legal practitioner, Pelumi Olajengbesi Esq has scolded the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government over its continuous detention of the ousted Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, against the extant laws of the land.
Olajengbesi, a Managing Partner at Law Corridor, Abuja, described the manifest and deliberate subversion of Nigerian laws to achieve particular political objective as in the instance of Bawa as a threat to the anti-corruption fight and institutions in the country.
Titled: “Continuous Detention of the Ousted EFCC Chairman Without a Formal Charge: Mixed Anti-Corruption Signals to the Watching World,” the legal practitioner said that continued detention of Bawa for more than three weeks without trial has raised suspicion that his incarceration was politically motivated.
He said, “When Mr. President ordered the arrest and detention of Mr. Bawa over allegations of corruption some three weeks ago, he was rightfully applauded for sending a clear message that there would be no sacred cows in the anti-graft fight.
“However, it has been three weeks of unlawful detention and unclear action on Bawa’s detention by none other than the DSS, sending a ripple of suspicion that his incarceration is now more politically motivated than not.
