The Transition Monitoring Group has expressed concern over the dismissal of the European Union (EU) Electoral Report by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Federal Government.
In a statement by the Chairman of the election monitoring group, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, stated that the EU’s report aligns with that of local observers and civil society groups working on election observation and democracy monitoring, they had earlier raised similar concerns about gaps in the electoral process in Nigeria.
“The recommendations by the European Union align with the views of many civil society groups and local observers. It is imperative that the government and INEC review those recommendations and work towards addressing the gaps in the electoral processes in order to make our electoral system more transparent, accountable and participatory to restore confidence in the process,” he said.

The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) and other market participants on Monday held a mock-trading session and Closing Gong Ceremony in honour of the late Subomi Balogun, the founder of FCMB Group.
Mr Balogun died on 18 May in London following a brief illness. He was 89.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer, NGX, Temi Popoola, emphasised that the late Mr Balogun was a blessing to the capital market.
“We are here to pay tribute to somebody that without him, we really cannot talk about our markets, and I am sure that there are many careers here that he helped shape, and mine is a good example.
“We can’t express our gratitude to him enough for what he did to help our industry expand. It is difficult to locate another family in Nigeria like the Subomis that can represent on the Exchange as they doing now. We are very grateful, and we assure them that they can count on our support going forward as the family continues to drive their strategic goals,” Mr Popoola said.
