I’m interested in becoming Senate Minority Leader – Abba Moro

The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Senator Patrick Abba Moro has confirmed that he is bidding for the position of minority leader in the 10th Senate.

As the Senate resumes tomorrow (July 4) from its post-inauguration break, the selection of principal officers will be the next battle with the earlier emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio and Senator Barau Jibrin as Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which has the majority seats (59 out of 109) in the Red Chamber is expected to produce the majority leader, deputy majority leader, chief whip and deputy chief whip, while minority leader, deputy minority leader, minority whip and deputy minority whip are reserved for the minority caucus. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the dominant opposition party with 36 seats will produce the minority leader and deputy leader.

Seun Kuti’s Assault Trial Stalled

Absence of Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatubosun of a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, on Monday stalled proceedings in an assault case brought against afrobeat singer Seun Kuti.

Kuti and his counsel, as well as prosecution team, were in court but the court could not sit due to Olatubosun’s absence.

Proceedings in the case will continue on Sept. 27.

The case was earlier adjourned until Monday (July 3) for advice of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Police brought Kuti to the court on May 16, and charged him with assaulting a police officer.

He allegedly committed the offence on May 13 on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos State.

International Widows Day: Adeleke’s wife celebrates Osun widows

The wife of the Osun State Governor, Titilola Adeleke, has commended the widows in the state for their courage in the midst of adversity.

Adeleke also stated that the unfortunate loss of a partner is magnified by a long-term fight for their basic rights and dignity.

This commendation is contained in a press statement issued by Titilola Adeleke to commemorate the 2023 International Widows Day.

The year 2023 Widows Day is themed; “Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.”

In the statement, Adeleke enunciated that; “Widows go through their experiences of grief, loss, or trauma, after the death of a spouse, they may also face economic insecurity,discrimination, stigmatization and harmful traditional practices on the basis of their marital status.

Ogun eyes conversion of petrol-fuelled buses to gas August

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Monday, said his administration would commence the conversion of mass transit buses from petroleum fuel to gas and motorcycles to electric in August.

Abiodun said the conversion programme is scheduled to take off in the first week of August.

The governor also said that his administration would take advantage of the newly signed electricity bill that regulates the power sector by establishing a company that would generate and distribute power supply in the Gateway state.

Abiodun said this when he received participants of the Senior Executive Course 45, Group 1, of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, who were on a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He said that his administration would, in its second term, focus on the provision of public utilities, which include water and electricity supply.
