Despite challenges, we’re on right track to success – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has expressed optimism about his administration’s ability to surmount the obstacles that confront the nation, stating that Nigeria not only has the means to thrive but also has a responsibility to lead the rest of the African continent to success.

In a statement issued by Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communication and Strategy, Dele Alake, the President stated this when he had an audience with visiting Bank of America officials in his office at the State House on Tuesday.

According to him, his administration was committed to instituting reforms that would engender the sustainable growth and development of the country.

“We believe we are on the right track so far. We believe we need all the help we can get,” the President said as he asked the bank’s management for support and partnership that would advance mutual benefits for Nigeria and the financial institution.

President Tinubu said governance and development challenges facing the country cannot be addressed without fiscal and institutional reforms.

An Abuja-based human rights lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi has asked the Department of State Services (DSS) to release the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), AbdulRasheed Bawa or charge him to court.

Olajengbesi made this call in a statement on Tuesday.

The human rights lawyer said the prolonged detention of Bawa by the secret police is illegal and an embarrassment to the nation’s justice system.

Olajengbesi said the DSS should charge Bawa to court for alleged offences levelled against his office as EFCC boss or release him to rejoin his family members.

Recall that, on June 14, President Bola Tinubu suspended Bawa as the anti-graft czar over alleged abuse of office and “to allow for a proper investigation into his conduct while in office”.

Bawa was subsequently quizzed at the DSS headquarters the same day with nothing heard about the matter for three weeks now.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has released the authentic result of the embattled candidate of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, in Anambra State, Mmesoma Ejikeme.

The authentic result released by JAMB showed that Mmesoma got 249.

Ejikeme had been paraded as the top scorer of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

Mmesome had claimed to have scored 362 but JAMB refuted her claim, stressing that she got 249.

Her claims had generated divergent views and controversy across Nigeria.

However, the authentic result slip released by JAMB has Mmesoma’s portrait contrary to the result sheet she was parading.

Meanwhile, JAMB spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, said Mmesoma paraded an “obsolete” notification slip.

Amid the controversy generated, JAMB has barred the 19-year-old from sitting for the exam for the next three years.
