In a recent statement, Buba Galadima, the Chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), expressed his belief that one month is too early to evaluate the performance of President Bola Tinubu. However, he acknowledged that Tinubu has made a promising start in comparison to the initial stages of the previous administration under President Muhammadu Buhari. Galadima also raised concerns about the need for a well-defined plan on how the funds generated from fuel subsidy removal would benefit the masses, regardless of their location or social status.
Galadima commended Tinubu for prioritizing his security by appointing commanders and sub-commanders within and around the villa. Additionally, the President has replaced the service chiefs, including the Inspector General of Police, who are in the process of appointing unit commanders across the country to combat criminal activities such as Boko Haram insurgency and kidnapping.
The Chieftain mentioned the inauguration of the National Assembly and the ongoing process of appointing committees, highlighting the imminent appointment of ministers to facilitate day-to-day government activities. According to Galadima, Tinubu is focused on selecting the best quality people for these positions, placing importance on competence over partisan considerations.
Galadima concluded by emphasizing the need for patience and giving Tinubu the opportunity to showcase his governance approach. He drew a distinction between the current administration and past military regimes, noting Tinubu’s efforts to consult with stakeholders from various political parties across the country. Galadima believed that if these positive trends continue, Tinubu’s government will pave the way for success.
