In a statement that was captured by Vanguard papers on their official website, The late Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola’s family was applauded on Saturday in Ibadan by the Federal Government for honoring the late Premier of the Western Region.
The family’s thanks were expressed in a statement that was signed by Mr. Lenn Ayoola, Mrs. Funmilayo Oyelade, Mr. Oladiran Olaniyi, Mr. Akintoye Akintola, Mr. Akintayo Akintola, and Mr. Akintunde Akinbola.
It commended President Bola Tinubu for honoring the late Akintola and appreciating his lasting legacies.
“We commend President Bola Tinubu for giving late Western Region Premier Chief S.L. Akintola eternal life.
President Tinubu named the Ibadan International Airport after the late Chief Akintola in honor of his contributions to democracy and societal advancement. He was a prince from the Orile Igbon, Surulere Local Government Area, Akinbola royal line in Oyo State.
According to a memo from the Federal Ministry of Ation dated June 1, 2023, which was signed by Mrs. Joke Olatunji for the Director of Airport tions, the President renamed the airport “as part of reforms of the ation sector,” the family claimed.
The family recalled that Akintola was premier of the now-defunct Western Nigeria from 1963 to 1966.
The family representatives thanked the president for the gift and commended his ground-breaking, forward-thinking policies.

They asserted that under Buhari, among other notable features, the Nigeria Railway Station at Omi-Adio in Ibadan was named after their late father and uncle.
