A female TikTok user named Nwakaego Okoye has been sentenced to three years in prison for cyberstalking Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus. according to punch news, the ruling was given by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday. Nwakaego pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of cyberstalking, and in light of her remorse, the judge offered her an alternative of paying a fine of N150,000 instead of serving jail time.
The charge against Nwakaego stated that she, along with another person named Chimabia (who is currently at large), conspired to commit the offense between December 2022 and July 2023 in Lagos. This act contravened Sections 24(1)(b)(2)(a)(c) and 27 of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015.
In a video clip, Nwakaego publicly apologized for her actions, revealing that she made defamatory statements against Eniola Badmus because a friend, Fortune Ibe, promised to pay her N200,000. She stated that she did it out of desperation to pay her house rent, and the allure of money pushed her to act in such a manner.
After Nwakaego’s arrest, Eniola Badmus rejected pleas to settle the matter out of court and insisted on pressing charges for the damage done to her reputation. In another incident, a young lady named Oge was also arrested for defaming Eniola Badmus in a viral video. Oge alleged that the actress ran a prostitution syndicate, pimping young ladies to politicians, claiming she had insider knowledge.
Eniola Badmus responded on her social media account, warning people who were out to defame her name. She reported the matter to the authorities, leading to Oge’s arrest. In a distressing video, Oge pleaded for forgiveness, stating that she was paid N200,000 to defame the actress.
