Lotanna Ojukwu, the younger brother of the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, claims that his brother never intended to establish a Biafra State. In an interview with Arise Tv news, he said that the over 80,000 Igbo deaths sparked a sense of unwelcomeness in the Nigerian state. He emphasised how Colonel Ojukwu was pressured to leave the Nigerian state by the Igbo Chiefs and the Igbo people.
He said, “The battle is ended. My brother was the leader of state of Biafra. For the Igbo guy who likes to travel, trade, and run his business, I personally think that Nigeria is a bigger and broader stage. Igbos don’t want to be limited to only 5 states; the creation of Biafra was an accident. Accidentally, I mean that my brother was forced to advocate for Biafra due to the 80,000 Igbos who were killed in 1966 and his sense of unwelcomeness. He was persuaded to announce the state of Biafra by the people, National Assembly of Chiefs, and Elders in the Eastern Region.
